India Mandates DNA Profiling for Citizens Missing in Nepal

The Indian government has launched a DNA profiling initiative to identify citizens missing in the wake of Nepal's devastating floods.

Following the severe flooding disaster that hit neighboring Nepal, the Government of India announced that it will conduct institutional DNA profiling to help identify missing Indian nationals. Dozens of Indian tourists, pilgrims, and border workers remain unaccounted for after torrents of water swept away critical roads and infrastructure. To aid ongoing identification efforts, India has dispatched two specialized aircraft filled with medical teams and emergency relief materials straight to Kathmandu. Concurrently, Indian states like Bihar have issued high-alert notices regarding public health and food safety, as floodwaters carrying debris and contaminants continue to affect regional river systems.
