India's Monsoon Rainfall Drops 15% Below Normal

Data published by the India Meteorological Department on Wednesday revealed that the nation's cumulative monsoon rainfall has fallen 15% below the long-period average. Since the commencement of the monsoon season in June, India has recorded approximately 648 millimeters of precipitation, compared to the normal benchmark of 760.6 millimeters for this stage of the year. The deficit is particularly acute across several key agricultural belts, prompting concerns among economists regarding upcoming crop yields and rural water resources. Agricultural experts are closely monitoring the situation, as a prolonged dry spell could impact the production of essential commodities and place additional upward pressure on domestic food inflation heading into the festival season.
