Parliamentary Panel Highlights Severe Enrollment Shortfalls in Free Coaching Scheme

A parliamentary standing committee report revealed significant execution issues in a Central Government scheme designed to provide free competitive exam coaching to economically disadvantaged students. The review noted that over the past three years, the Union government managed to enroll only 2,790 candidates against an initial institutional target of 10,500 students, representing a low 26% success rate. The panel criticized the lack of widespread awareness, rigid eligibility criteria, and administrative delays in partnering with reputed coaching centers as primary reasons for the shortfall. The committee urged the Ministry of Social Justice to overhaul its outreach strategies and simplify enrollment procedures to ensure underprivileged youth can access the educational benefits.
