PM Modi Launches 'Wed in India' Campaign to Drive GDP
Prime Minister Modi urged wealthy citizens to hold destination weddings domestically, aiming to boost India's 7.8% economic growth.
Building on an impressive 7.8% GDP rise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the 'Wed in India' campaign, encouraging citizens to ditch foreign luxury venues for domestic ones. Speaking on national economic health, Modi noted that keeping affluent wedding expenditures within the country will directly stimulate the local tourism, hospitality, and handicraft sectors. The push aligns with broader 'Vocal for Local' and 'Swadeshi Bharat' economic strategies. Concurrently, to support localized wealth generation and academic access, regional leaders like the Odisha Chief Minister matched this focus by waiving all medical and engineering admission fees for underprivileged SC and ST students.
