Ram Temple Donation Probe Expands
The SIT probing Ram Mandir donation allegations is being strengthened at the Supreme Court’s suggestion.
The investigation into allegations surrounding donations collected for the Ram Mandir project in Ayodhya has expanded after the Supreme Court suggested strengthening the Special Investigation Team examining the matter. Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Alok Kumar said on October 4 that the issue should not be politicised and that the organisation had acknowledged allegations involving cash theft from temple offerings. The investigation has therefore moved into a more formal phase as authorities examine the handling of donations and related allegations.
The Ram Mandir project has enormous religious and political significance, and questions over donations are consequently particularly sensitive. Temple fundraising involves contributions from large numbers of devotees, making transparency and accounting essential for maintaining public trust. Any allegations involving misappropriation or theft therefore require careful investigation regardless of political affiliation.
The expansion of the SIT is important because a larger investigation can examine multiple aspects of the matter rather than focusing narrowly on one alleged incident. At the same time, allegations must remain allegations until established through evidence and judicial proceedings. The VHP’s statement that the matter should not become politicised reflects awareness of the issue’s potential political impact. The case could ultimately become an important test of how religious institutions and politically significant charitable projects maintain financial transparency when they handle large public contributions.
